Ethanol – a transparent, colorless, volatile, flammable liquid that is the major ingredient of alcoholic beverages. Excessive ingestion results in acute intoxication, with psychological, gastrointestinal, neurological, and motor abnormalities; ingestion during pregnancy can harm the fetus. See also alcoholism.
